The two cat statues that flanked Peter Criss’s drum kit during the 1976 Destroyer tour were reportedly named Tom and Jerry.
They were also referred to as the “Altar Cats” due to their placement on his elevated riser, which was themed to match his “Catman” persona. While the first set of sleeker, Egyptian-style cats (Tom and Jerry) were stolen early in the tour, the replacement set—which were bulkier and featured fangs – are the ones most commonly seen in later footage from that era, including the Paul Lynde Halloween Special.
Interestingly, the original “Tom and Jerry” were missing for decades before being discovered in an Atlanta suburb, where they were being used as Halloween decorations!
